My Koh Lipe Travel Guide
Koh Lipe is Thailand’s southernmost island and the most remote destination in the country that’s still on the tourist map. The water is the clearest you’ll find in Thailand – Lipe sits inside the Tarutao Marine National Park, which limits development on the surrounding islands and keeps the reefs in shape. The trade-off is the journey: getting there takes the better part of a day from anywhere, and the high season is short (roughly November through April).
We’ve done Lipe once, at the very end of a longer southern Thailand trip, and the photographs still don’t match how the water actually looked. If you want a quiet small-island finale and have a few extra days to dedicate to the transit, this is the most rewarded option in the country.

Frequently asked questions
Is Koh Lipe worth the trip down?
If you want the clearest water in Thailand and don't mind the journey, yes. Lipe sits in the Tarutao Marine National Park, the protected status keeps the reefs healthy, and the day-tripper traffic is much lower than the Andaman headliners further north.
How do I get to Koh Lipe?
Fly to Hat Yai or Trang, then 90-minute transfer to a pier, then 90-minute speedboat to Lipe. Or fly to Langkawi (Malaysia) and ferry from there in dry season. Direct ferry from Phuket exists but takes a full day.
When can I visit?
November through April is the prime (and possibly only) sensible season. Many ferries shut down completely from May to October due to monsoon. Check operator schedules before you book flights.
